This painting was used on the album cover of Breabach’s latest album ‘Frenzy of meeting’. Obviously I pumped up the album art a bit in the computer, but this thing here… this is the source.
This is definitely set in a post apocalyptic Assynt, The sky has a fallen, the sun is in the bog and the moon melts amongst fierce white clouds of endless rain. If you’ve ever ventured across the heath up there in a storm you can empathise with the mood I’m sure. My kids helped me do this one as I was experimenting heavily with various ad-hoc techniques of which child like wonder was just one. It is heavy with acrylic paint, ink, pencil, enamel and even flakes of aluminium from Misha Somerville’s lathe, their is all kinds of things going on it is heavily textured, glossy, reflective, matte, everything. I can look at this for hours and I usually grow to dislike my own paintings. This one, not so. It is special hence the higher price.
Also please go and buy Breabach’s new album. There is a vinyl coming soon. You should by the vinyl ok. OK xxx
